Zoo-young Lee 이주영

2017 A Single Rider

As a ten year veteran who has directed a number of commercials and music videos, Director Lee began studying directing at the Korea National University of Arts (KNUA) whilst maintaining her career in producing commercials and music videos. She wrote and directed two short films, Love Is Patience which was invited to the 2010 Sapporo International Short Film Festival and was made an official selection at various competitions since. Her other short film, On The Other Side Of You also received critical and popular acclaim at domestic and international film festivals and showcases. A Single Rider, her debut to the big screen is filled with beautiful visuals and cinematography which captures the beauty of Sydney. This is credit to her many years working in video formats which require an eye for detail and colour.

This is not the first time Director E has been to Australia. After studying Turkish at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, he set off as a backpacker travelling to Germany, London and Australia to name a few. It was during this journey he fell in love with cinema and after returning from his trip, decided to pursue the art of filmmaking. His first short-film, Homo Videocus received an accolade of awards at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival and the Best Short Narrative award at the 1992 San Francisco International Film Festival. A career which went on to receive much more critical acclaim, his latest, The Bacchus Lady went on to win the Jury Grand Prize for veteran actress, Youn Yuh-jung at the Asia Pacific Film Awards.

Director of this year’s closing film, The Queen of Crime, Director Lee studies at the Korea National University of Arts. His short films include Inspection of the Memory, Plastic Robot, Dirty Harry, Vogue figure. Director Lee is a member of indie cinema production house, Gwanghwamun Cinema, which has made a name for itself through their smash hit King of Jokgu which screened at the 2015 Korean Film Festival in Australia. Director Lee’s feature debut is the second production from the group and has already secured sales to five Asian countries, solidifying his capabilities to helm many more feature films to come!
