INTRODUCTION

What is the Korean Film Festival in Australia (KOFFIA)?

The Korean Film Festival in Australia (KOFFIA) first began in October of 2010 and was the inaugural festival of its kind. The 1st KOFFIA took place just in Sydney at Dendy Opera Quays, with the goal to expand to more regions in the future. This was achieved in just our 2nd year when KOFFIA took place in both Sydney and Melbourne in 2011. The 3rd Korean Film Festival will take place in August / September 2012, and hopefully we will be expanding once more!

The festival is organised by the Korean Cultural Office, with support from the Consulate-General of the Republic of Korea in Sydney.
It aims to
- Generate an interest in Korean Cinema within the local community.
- Raise the understanding of the aesthetics of Korean films throughout the community.
- Share the virtues of Korean Culture and Tradition.
- Provide support and give opportunity to aspiring Korean filmmakers residing in Australia.
- Develop relations with Australian artists.

What is the Korean Cultural Office (KCO)?

The Korean Cultural Office is a diplomatic non-profit organisation based in Sydney that acts as the Cultural Ambassador to all things Korean in Australia. Established in April 2011, it will where the KOFFIA team operate. It’s aims to encourage cultural exchange, for mutual respect, and KOFFIA is at the heart of this goal. What is the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea?

The Consulate-General of the Republic of Korea in Sydney is the Korean Government’s diplomatic office. It has jurisdiction over New South Wales, Queensland and the Northern Territory. Within these areas it is responsible for providing consular assistance to Korean nationals and immigration, and visa-related information for Australians and citizens of third countries travelling to Korea, including matters relating to trade and culture.
