Korea’s action director is back with a hard hitting complex thriller!
A serial killer is on the streets of Seoul, and the police need a solution to curb the publics panic. In a chain of event that reaches from the dark grim streets to the well lit boardrooms, a plan is set in place that will mean no turning back. A corrupt cop battles a corrupt prosecutor and in their desperation, they resort to means beyond their own control.
RYOO’s films have been, up until now, strongly associated with the Korean styled action genre. He even went as far as humorously parodying the genre in Dachimawa Lee (2008). The Unjust predicts the road he may be paving, as he expands his territory to the social layer. He presents explosive characters caught in the system regardless of their moral standing. In Korean cinema, there has rarely been such ‘hardboiled’ characterization of prosecutors and police officers.
Both a box office hit and critical success, this crime tale is an edge of the seat thrill ride with a superb soundtrack and a terrific cast of Ryoo Seung-bum (the director’s brother), Yu Hae-jin (Woochi) and Hwang Jeong-min (Blades of Blood). The Unjust is the perfect start to KOFFIA 2011. Hold on Tight!
